Babies take a lot of attention and a lot of love it is time well spent. The loving is always easy. Who could not love little babies? The attention and care for babies may present a problem for anyone who is not use to being around little ones. Eventually you will get the hang of baby care and it is really not as complicated as you might think.
Lets start with the babys bottom changing a diaper is one of the first things that you will want to learn. For a little girl lift her legs with one hand and remove any poop with a wet washcloth. It is normally alright to use wet wipes as well. You can use a washcloth to clean the derriere the first few weeks to prevent any rash that a wet wipe might cause. To clean the genital area, wipe from the vagina toward the rectum. Dry the babys bottom with a soft cloth applies ointment around the genitals and on the buttocks to prevent diaper rash. One big difference for little boys is the penis. Make sure that you keep it covered or you might get sprayed. The procedure is basically the same make sure that he is cleaned, dried, and an ointment is applied around the genitals and buttocks.
The next important thing for babies is feeding time. Breast feeding in the beginning is usually most desired. The baby eats and eats nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment. At first you will find the nipples will be hard enough but they quickly get to be sore. Before you feed the baby we suggest that you get a heating pad or warm wet wash cloth warm nipples help the milk to flow much easier. After the feeding then we suggest that you use a cold pack to help you with the soreness. Most young mothers normally start within the third or fourth week giving the baby a bottle a day this helps the baby to get use to formula.
We all want normal perfect babies but unfortunately birth defects can and do happen. It is important that all parents are aware of the most common birth defects and what can be done to prevent or treat your baby. Congenital heart defects are among the most common birth defects. It is said that about 25,000 U.S. babies are born with heart defects. These defects can be mild showing no symptoms at birth. The defect can cause babys ability to circulate oxygenated blood through the body. Today the prognosis for babies with congenital heart defects has improved significantly now it It is a good thing to do the corrections or treatment as soon as possible. The next birth defect is Cerebral Palsy.
Cerebral Palsy babys movement is affected and so is the posture. It is caused by the part of the brain that controls muscle movement. Cerebral Palsy usually is not diagnosed until the child has reached the age of 2 or 3 years old. Two children out of 1.000 over the age of 3 have cerebral palsy. Currently in the United States, 500,000 individuals both children and adults are diagnosed with cerebral palsy. There is no cure for cerebral palsy but with treatment and physical therapy most children can significantly improve over time.
Spina Bifida is the most common of a group of birth defects called neural tube defects. Spina Bifida affects approximately one in 2,000 babies. Scientists believe that babys who have spina bifida got it from their parents, however, they have found that most cases have been found in Hispanics mostly but there are cases in African Americans and Asians. Depending on the condition of the child treatment can range from none to several surgeries.
Babies are truly a wonderful gift from God and my prayer has always been for my family that all the children are born happy and healthy. It is very unfortunate that sometimes this is always not true. I have a cousin who was born with cerebral palsy, a nephew who has spina bifida, and a brother who was born with multiple birth defects. These children have all added a special gift to our families. We have learned much better to love through their eyes. We all understand suffering through the eyes of a small child and grow stronger each day because of them. It would be most wonderful thing if all babies were born healthy but whatever happens please note your child is still special and will be loved by everyone.

Sometimes we don’t want to give the same old baby gifts. Satin-trimmed blankets and soft, cuddly teddy bears will always make classic and wonderful gifts, but with a little creativity, you can give a gift that’s sure to be unique and cherished.
One great idea is to give the gift of memories, not with a baby keepsake book or photo album or even the makings for a scrapbook. Rather, why not give a gift that’s destined to become a generational keepsake.
Autobiography kits are something that have become popular in the last few years, allowing families to capture memories that may be lost forever otherwise. There are projects out there to capture the memories of the elderly, of war veterans and Holocaust survivors, but the concept is now being boxed up and available to take into your own home. Parents can capture memories to pass on to their children, and their children’s children.
Many people would love to write a memoir or autobiography, but they just don’t have a clue where to begin. Autobiography kits fill that particular need. They’re geared for guided memoirs, often providing a series of questions that will lead a person through pertinent memories, sometimes through memories that they haven’t recalled in years.
Does this seem like an odd gift for parents-to-be or for a new baby? It shouldn’t. What you’re giving, in effect, is a way to reach out between generations, and what better time for parents to start recording priceless memories but when their baby is born, when they’re in tune with family and emotion and the value of memories.
Some books on the subject can be found on Amazon and in larger bookstores. Check out books such as The Book of Myself: A Do-It-Yourself Autobiography in 201 Questions by David and Carl Marshall.
Otherwise, pull up your favorite search engine and type in Autobiography Kits in the search criteria field. Many kits of varying prices and with differing approaches are available through the Internet.
Our memories are priceless, and every person who lives and breathes in the world is a treasure trove of memories. But they can also slip away, lost with time and passing. That’s what makes this a great baby gift. It’s the gift of generations, of knowledge and of family. It’s a gift that the new parents will be sure to enjoy and a gift that will be treasured, potentially, for lifetimes.

Babies too like a massage, and it helps them to relax, sleep better, and sometimes, digest their food too. Strokes that are used to massage an adult can be used on babies too. You need to learn by practice what your child enjoys most.
Some points to remember while massaging your baby:
He/she will not stay still for long periods of time
The strokes will have to be gentle, and smaller to adapt to the babys body
Depending on the age, the child can be placed in your lap or on a floor towel during the massage
Do not persist with the massage if the baby is distinctly uncomfortable
The easy guide to massage your baby:
The baby should be turned on his/her back
Stroke the face first
oFrom the forehead out to the temples
oFrom nose to the ears and from cheeks to chin
Massage the front upwards, and then outwards from the arms
With both hands, make clockwise circles around the navel
Make gentle wringing actions on the abdomen and upwards
Alternately, lift and stroke each arm with both hands and then squeeze with one hand Hand should be massaged and each finger rotated individually
Legs should be first wrung gently or squeezed upwards and then stroked lightly with feather touches downwards
Turn the baby on their stomach
Gently stroke the back, upwards and outwards on the arms
Shoulders require a gentle kneading
Massage the buttocks with small pinching or kneading strokes
Using alternate hands, work gently down the spine from the neck to the base
Using gliding strokes on the legs, work on the feet by bending at the knee
Rotate the foot by clasping it between the heels of both hands
Hold each toe, squeeze, rotate and pull in turn
Massage up the sole of the foot with the thumb, while squeezing the heel
End with light strokes down the body, from the head to the toes
Try these simple massage techniques on your baby and watch her/him gurgle away.

Anyone who has tried to cook a meal while watching a toddler knows how difficult a chore this can be. I know that if I dont keep my little girl busy and entertained, shes either off in another room scaling the furniture, clinging to my legs and screaming for attention, or grabbing for hot pots and kitchen shears. So, here are some ways Ive found to keep her safe and happy while I get dinner ready.
1. I have a cabinet for her to explore. I keep the bottom three shelves of my pantry stocked with things like boxed (sealed) macaroni and cheese, cocoa mix, small canned goods, dry cereal - things she can take out, stack, rearrange, sort, etc. We even got her a little plastic grocery cart ($8.99 at Toys R Us), so she can shop in the pantry to her hearts content.
2. Ill set her up in a high chair with a big bowl of corn meal or oats, and some plastic measuring cups and spoons. She has a ball pouring, measuring, and stirring. Note - this can get messy but sweeps up fairly easily; or you could use a drop cloth if your floor is carpeted.
3. My daughter likes to play with refrigerator magnets. Toddler-safe magnets can be lots of fun and provide good entertainment. We bought her a barn magnet puzzle kit (as an alternative to potentially unsafe regular magnets) that plays songs when she matches the pieces; its cute and she enjoys it.
4. Stickers are always a good diversion, if you dont mind peeling them off the cabinets!
5. We will sometimes give her a task that can be done on the floor or in a high chair, like sorting the mail. This makes her feel as though she is helping out.
6. I will occasionally get a step stool and let her stand at the counter and help to prepare the meal. She can do things like tear up lettuce, or place chopped vegetables into a bowl, or put shredded cheese on the lasagna.
7. Ill position her on a stool at the sink and let her wash some plastic dishes.
8. I give her a kid-sized broom and let her sweep the kitchen floor (hopefully shell still enjoy this type of thing when she gets older!).
9. We will often turn on the radio so she can sing and dance to the music. Note - this is much more fun (for both of you) if you join in, too!
10. If all else fails, and she doesn’t want to go along with any of these activities, I know its because she is hungry and I give her a light snack. You dont want to spoil their appetite for the upcoming meal, so just be sure to make it something healthy and not too filling, like diced fruit.
Cooking with toddlers is a challenge and a half. Try some of these tips, and also remember to have fun! Theyre only this age once.

A Sesame Street theme party for your young child, toddler, or babies first birthday is a fun popular kids theme, thus, there is a huge selection of party favors, party packs, and cakes available featuring the Sesame Street Gang.
Since Sesame Street parties are normally held for young children, and simple forms of entertainment work the best. One thing to consider is that when you play elimination games, where certain participants are out it is important to provide alternate form of entertainment to keep the little ones out of the game entertained. Remember, for smaller children, games like pin the beak on Big Bird or follow the leader may seem overdone, but they actually like doing things that they are familiar with, so these games can be the perfect choices.
Another good choice is a game of Wheres Elmo with adults telling players when they are hot or cold in their search for a hidden Elmo, or other Sesame Street character. A Sesame Street variation on the game of hot potato, are children in a circle, passing around an Elmo doll, and when the music ends, the child holding Elmo is out and the last child remaining, wins a prize.
A good way to provide entertainment while the children are waiting for all the guests to arrive, and during the down times when the children who are out are just popping in a Sesame Street movie, or printing Sesame Street coloring pages and letting the children color the pages (with washable markers.) To make sure everyone gets to be a winner, it is good to include a game like popping the balloon in which a balloon is blown up with a small piece of paper inside on which a gift is written. When the child pops the balloon, they win the prize.
Good menu choices are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into Sesame Street character shapes, birthday cake and ice cream, and dont forget Elmos lemonade stand to round out your Sesame Street Party!

In the UK, this week is Adoption Week. The one time of the year when all the Organisations and Charities involved in all the aspects of Adoption get together to try and help raise the awareness of what Adoption is really all about.
Now in theory this is all fine and dandy (to coin a phrase) but as with all things (Adoption is no different) there are Winners and there are losers.
Now it may be a crime of immense political incorrectness to look at this way but there really isnt any other truthful way of looking at it.
It is called the Adoption Triangle, the Holy Trinity of Adoption, The three sided equation but in reality there is more.
On the surface of it there is just the Birth Mother, the adopted child and the Adoptive Parents but would that it was that simple. In reality the adoption triangle involves two families in total. On the Birth Families side you have the Birth Parents (everyone tends to forget about the Father), the adopted childs siblings (thats brothers and sisters to you and me) and their Grandparents, Uncles & Aunts etc.
On the adoptive families side there are an equally large number of involved personnel (albeit to a different degree) and these all will have in truth some impact though none fall into consideration when the Adoption is processed.
It sounds cold and clinical to talk of Adoption as a procedure, but that it is what it is. In an attempt to heighten and increase the awareness of Adoption, Organisations involved tend to couch their terms in warm comfortable phraseology that tends to wash over the fact that for every warm cuddly adoptive family waiting to welcome into their arms the child of their dreams their will be sometimes be a Birth Mother who is going to be forever separated from her child.
Now in a great many cases, this entire process is for the better but in the past the separation of birth mother and child has quite often been a forced and painful one and there are very few Birth Mothers in existence today who havent thought regularly of the child they had and what could, possibly might have been.
People forget that the role of being a Birth Mother isnt always filled by the Alcoholic drug ridden typecast incapable young girl, the image so lovingly played upon by some Adoption organisations. Quite often the conception and actual birth of a child is a complete social disaster for a number of reasons some of which lie beyond the control of the birth mother herself. The adoption is a traumatic experience that will leave scars of guilt forever etched in the psyche of the birth mother herself.
It is said that time is great healer but there are some scars and experiences that even time cannot heal.

The Wiggles know kids like to sing along with them and be happy. A Wiggles party will be fun for everyone!
Perfect invitations to a Wiggles party are CDs of Greg, Murray, Jeff, and Anthony singing, slid into an inexpensive, plain white cardboard (or a homemade cardboard sleeve constructed from posterboard and glue) with all the relevant information written inside. These sing along invitations would be good, because from the time the child receives the invitation until the time of the party, they can be learning the songs, so they can sing along!
Decorate in the same simple red, blue, purple, and yellow found in the Wiggles home. This will prove to be inexpensive as well, because rather than buying expensive printed theme products, you can buy simple, inexpensive products in the Wiggles colors.
A neat idea for easy party food you can prepare ahead of time is to purchase colorful cardboard containers like the ones found in Chinese restaurants. Each container is big enough to hold an Anthony sandwich, chips, and a drink box.
A great cake idea is a three-dimensional Henry the Octopus cake. The cake, surrounded by a sea of cupcakes in red, blue, purple, and yellow, connected to Henrys body by sour straws, will be an exciting Wiggles centerpiece for the food table.
Should you decide not to go for the drink boxes, or if you think the children need extra drinks, a neat idea is this recipe for rainbow punch in Wiggles colors:
Rainbow Punch
Use ice cube trays to freeze red, blue, purple, and yellow ice cubes made from powdered soft drink mix, or apple juice with a few drops of food coloring. To serve, use clear plastic cups, add a cube of each color, and fill with clear soda.
When the Party Begins
When the guests arrive, give each one a colored shirt and/or cap, so they can be their favorite Wiggle - purple, red, yellow, or blue. Painter caps can be purchased at hardware or dollar stores for around a dollar, and a little fabric paint and a shaped paint sponge from your craft store, make it easy to decorate the caps before the party.
Wiggles Party Game Ideas
Since you prepared the kids by sending them the Wiggles CD invitation, they will have a fun time singing and clapping along to their favorite Wiggles songs in a Wiggles sing-along!
Wiggles Pinata
Have the kids take turns trying to break a Wags-the-Dog Pinata, and instead of candy, you can have stickers, pens, washable markers, printed and copied homemade coloring pages, etc.
Find Feathersword’s Treasure
Before the party hide gold plastic coins and toys for the children to find, making it easier by having an adult to tell them if they are cold or hot.
Jeff’s Sleepy Time Tag
Jeffs sleepy time tag is played just like freeze tag, but instead of freezing when tagged, the children will fall asleep until a friend wakes them up!
Dance Time
Provide pieces of colored streamer or ribbons to each child. Put on a Wiggles CD and let the children dance while they sing along!
Story Time
End the party with a story time to settle your guests down before they go home. Sometimes the party boy or girl feels a little after party let down, so if you make arrangements for one special friend to sleep over after the party, it can make the transition from your Wiggles party excitement a little bit more smooth.

Under Babies-Toddler
I recently had the opportunity to conduct a short but fascinating print interview with Judith Tropea, author of the recently-published book, Classic Biblical Baby Names - Timeless Names for Modern Parents.
At the outset, I was struck by a quotation from the book’s introduction — a quotation from Proverbs, 22:1, A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches. Rather a bold statement, I thought, especially when many of us hold great riches in such high esteem!
What is there to say about a biblical name, or any name for that matter, that could make it so important? After all, isn’t a name just a name? As Shakespeare said, what’s in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
But would it?
In her book, Judith Tropea notes that Names are an integral part of our identity. A child’s name affects his or her self-perception and reflects the parents’ beliefs and cultures. A name pays tribute to the individual spirit and is one of the first wonderful gifts you can offer your child. When I asked her about this during our conversation, she said A biblical name gives a baby a connection to spirituality that may be a springboard to finding spirituality later in life.
I think that’s a pretty good reason for prospective parents to consider the names in the bible. and see what a treasure trove of names might be between the covers.
At my urging, Judith Tropea came up with 3 suggestions each for boy’s and girl’s names from the bible that are a little out of the ordinary, and that carry a positive spiritual message. For girls, the names were Dannah, Ivah, and Zaccai. For boys, Asher, Barak, and Jakim. I grabbed my copy of her book to see what the meanings and spiritual significance of these names might be.
The name Dannah literally means judging. It signifies a woman who stands for justice and fair play. Ivah means overturning, and it is a reminder that faith can move mountains. Zaccai means just, or seeker of justice. I was beginning to understand what the author meant about names affecting our self-perception.
The boy’s name Asher means happy or blessed. Barak, a name currently very prominent because of the senator from Illinois, means’ flash of lightning, and the spiritual connotation is powered by God. Jakim means God lifts up, and it symbolizes a man who lives his life as an example to other people.
Quite a remarkable group of names. Classic Biblical Baby Names is filled with examples of names like these, spelling out their literal and spiritual meanings, and how the names crop up in different biblical stories. Some of the names are quite well known, such as Adam, Paul, or Elizabeth; others, like Darius or Calah, are much more obscure. After my conversation with Judith Tropea, I found myself wanting to dig into her book more, to see what other little-known names and meanings are lurking in there.
I also found myself in the odd position of having to disagree with Shakespeare. Much as the great Bard knew his stuff, on this point I think he was mistaken — a rose, by any other name, sometimes may not smell as sweet.
